THE GUY

Published by theguy at 11:03 am under Life Edit This

Who is THE GUY? Where did he come from? The answer my mind. It started in High School, I was heavy in to my TV Production class. I remember the first time, I started in that class. It was my sophomore year in Plantation, previous I yet again failed in everything, I was a slacker in high school, failed at jv football, JROTC, Art class, I felt that I sucked at everything. People around me including my father always criticized me like I truly was one of life’s losers. I was reluctant to try another thing like this. My first game to film was a football game Plantation High vs Dillard High, keep in mind Dillard  is one of the highest rated and the toughest teams at the time to beat. The anticipation alone was high for everyone. I was lucky to even get that game to film. Anyway, I remember coming there early setting up, I put the tripod on and set the camera. As soon as the game started my life changed. I turned the camera and I remember automatically being focused on the game, I felt like a young Herbie Hancock on a jazz solo, these camera skills came out of no where, every shot look perfect. The next day my teacher/ mentor Mr. Baker complemented my work, it was the first time anyone said anything positive about me in a long time. It felt great! My grades improved I was on the honor roll at least 8 times. I was even promoted to Honors classes. I found brains I never knew I had. At church, I used to feel like an outsider now I became a legend as the youngest member of the media ministry and the youngest person to ever work a master control system for a live event in Fort Lauderdale. I was even thinking about going to college, I was trying to go to Howard, NYU and was even accepted into Northeastern University. It was crazy how one elective course could change my life. I even earned my first award the Bronze Award for a ACT-SO contest sponsored by the NAACP. That moment was significant because I wrote that short while recovering from pneumonia, broncitisis and the scarlet fever. I was popular because of my student films and my work as a camera. I had people call me for taping everything. It was cool feeling important but I grew tired that no one bothered to learn my name, they just called me the camera guy so I took out the camera part and there became my alter ego. THE GUY aka Guy Hunter. The mysterious filmmaker, my own personal Superhero. Guy Hunter is based on my uncle and my mother’s maiden name. It’s a hidden alias of mine. The Guy is all business and all hustle 24/7. When I’m The Guy, it’s like I’m Miles Davis or James Brown, the arranger, the genius the one man filmmaker. I’ve been trying to bring that alter ego back now that I need more than ever. So there you have it ENTER THE GUY.
